The Dental Crown Procedure
Victoria Family Dental places dental crowns in Kitchener for our patients, conveniently in our office.
Our dentist will start by assessing your dental health, and will recommend a dental crown if needed to support a tooth. If you are interested in a crown for cosmetic reasons, let us know, and we can discuss your options.
Your treatment options and dental crown choices will be discussed with you fully, and a personalized treatment plan developed. The material for the dental crown will be chosen in consultation with you, to meet your needs.
Tooth Preparation
To allow the crown to fit on your tooth, our dentist will remove a tiny layer of the tooth enamel. An impression of your prepared tooth is then taken, so a custom crown can be made from it. While your permanent crown is being crafted, a temporary crown will be placed on your tooth to protect it.
Permanent Crown Placement
A second visit is needed to place the final, custom crown. Our dentist will confirm it is a good fit, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure your bite is comfortable.
Aftercare and Maintenance
Proper care and oral hygiene will help your crown last a long time. Although the tooth is protected, you still need to practice good oral hygiene to keep the tooth and gums healthy. Daily brushing and flossing is necessary. Be sure to schedule regular dental check-ups for professional cleanings and checkups, too. This allows your dentist to monitor your crown.
Avoid biting hard objects, chewing ice, or using your teeth as a tool, to prevent damaging your crown.
